Do not buy a high powered laser pointer with an output of more than 5 mW because the picture of the Type 3A label on the indicator is below; Sometimes the notation uses Roman numerals: type IIIa. Some green laser designators can produce up to 300 mW and they are very flawed Type 3B laser devices!! As the beam intensity increases from 5 mW, the damage increases proportionally. Even at very low power, as low as 5 mW, the laser can cause temporary flash blindness when directed directly at the eye. A brief flash of such a laser is unlikely to cause immediate permanent damage, as the eye blinks and moves to avoid the beam, but can lead to vision loss later in life. Therefore, it is not safe to use class 3B or Class 4 laser designators with power exceeding 5 mW.
