Since the boom in 1000mw laser pointer popularity in the 1990s, there have been countless makes and models of laser pointers put on the market. Each different laser pointer has its own features that are suitable for different situations and needs, including the power of the laser, the size of the pointer, and of course, the cost of the pointer. There are companies offering high-power, military-quality lasers as well as simple lasers that operate on the lowest power, which are better suited for short-distance pointing.

In 2014, htpow.com consulted two experts on potential treatments for retinal burns (no holes, no bleeding, just white burns). They state as follows:

Symptoms and vision may improve over time. The conservative approach is to use oral NSAIDs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen or indomethacin. More aggressive treatment has been used, and the results are generally good, with only small decreases in visual acuity and small scotoma in individual accident cases. Even steroids, orals and/or steroid injections are used in the eyes. Anti-VEGF injections into the eye (ranibizumab, bevacizumab, pegatanide, and aflibercept) are expected to treat certain conditions similar to laser eye injuries. Without treatment, the results of these 3000mw laser pointer injuries can be similar. Side effects of more aggressive treatment should be considered.

Treatment should begin after the injury, preferably within a day or two. Fortunately, since the lesions appear to remain active for days or even weeks after exposure, even late treatment -- days or even weeks after initiation -- can still be beneficial.

Surgery should be reserved for more complex cases. Stem cells are used for some corneal injuries, but for the retina stem cells are for the future. Planting healthy retinas to replace damaged ones is attractive and may one day become the standard treatment.

One or more follow-up examinations should be scheduled. These are important "for many different reasons".
